5 Reasons Why You Should Organize

Some people think being organized requires a lot of work or maybe a complete system where you have to do a complicated set of tasks. In short, many people view being organized as impossible to achieve. While that is not really true, it takes a much disciplined person not to resort back to his old habits. It’s really easy to do and you get many benefits when you’re organized. Here are some of them.

1. You will have more room.

When you get organized whether at your room or at your desk at work, you’ll find you have more free space and that you’re space is uncluttered. You won’t even have to throw something out. You just need to place things in some sort of order and maintain that order at all times.

2. You will be able to save time.

Looking for files at work? It’s organized alphabetically in the cabinet. Being organized lets you look for files that you might need in a hurry in the future. Looking for your book? It’s safely stashed behind your bed. This is a really good time-saving technique which would help you when you’re in a hurry.

3. You will also save money.

You don’t believe that? Try thinking why you bought another ballpoint pen today? Isn’t it because you lost your old one? Or think of the countless items you bought because you thought you didn’t have one of them at your house. Just think of how much you could save in a year just by being organized.

4. You will feel more in control.

Did you know that clutter around your house and at work causes the stress you’re feeling from time to time? It’s no wonder you’re feeling more irritated at work. As your clutter goes, you’ll feel that it is easier to breathe and take charge of your own life.

5. You will make a great impression to others.

This should be a good enough reason why you should make a considerable effort to be organized. Just think of your mother or wife not pestering you to clean your room again. Or just think how you’ll never forget that you have a meeting with somebody at some place.

Being organized requires a lot of discipline to maintain. Nobody ever said it was easy. You need to make sure you don’t lapse back to your old habits or all of what you have done will be for nothing.

Tips to Keep Your Children’s Room Tidy

You want your children to be organized and stay safe, but your kids have other things in mind. Your kids want to play, play and play! If you are having a hard time keeping your children’s room clean and organized, read on some tips to help you with your goal.

Create the room to be more efficient. Make use of enough of small drawers or cabinets, where you can put your child’s belongings. Utilize anything that fits the design or budget. For toddlers, hanging their clothes on small hangers can easily help them choose an outfit that looks good together.

Arrange outfits for your older toddler and place them in a zipper bag or a paper bag.

For babies, group the essential things you need in one area. Put all items that you need for changing your baby on or near your changing table. Arrange baby’s bath basics together including towels and washcloths. Keep them within easy reach when you are bathing your baby. After all, you cannot leave your baby in her tub while you look for her baby shampoo.

Think about placing shelves all over your child’s room. You can put toys on them so that when your child wants to play, she can easily reach them without ruining other toys on the self. Arrange your toddler’s clothes. You can place each item into a paper bag or a cloth bag (Note: plastic bags might present a hazard to a young child’s safety).

Place a limit on the toys that are used at one time. Teach your kid to play with their toys one at a time. If a particular toy is not part of a “game” plan, put them back on their shelves. Make use of special containers for the toys with small pieces. A good example is using old shoeboxes as a toy car garage. For your boy’s area, place a basketball hoop on top of his laundry bin. He then will not only keep his dirty clothes organized, but he can also practice some basketball moves.

Train your kids to pick up their toys. Ask your child to return each toy to its shelf once he is done playing with it.
Be resourceful and recycle. Think about touching up your old desk or bookshelf for the child’s room so that no item is wasted. Ask your children to join you when you are cleaning their rooms.

Teach your children to place their toys and other times in their right places once they are done playing. It takes time before you see results but it is worth it.

How to Organize Your Bills and Other Papers

Do you feel like you’re almost drowned by various bills and notices? Here are some tips for you to organize your bills, letters, and other notices as well.

- When you are removing your mail from the mailbox, first look quickly through the mail and from your scan you can identify the items that you do not need to see or you did not ask for, such as bulk mail or advertising brochures. Throw these things out immediately.

- If you keep catalogs, you will soon lose that valuable storage space. That is, you should keep only the pages containing the prospective items that you want. Save also the order form as well as the catalog’s back cover. The rest, trash it.

- When you receive your bills, throw away the outer envelope as well as other junk inside the envelope, saving only the actual bill that you need and the envelope for payment. Place all your bills in an envelope like a manila envelope and file using a punch-up file. Upon placing the bills in your manila envelope, you have to write yourself a little note to remind you that you have to pay this or that certain bill. Place that small note in the “Payday” folder or in some other appropriate folder. Ensure that you allow for some mailing time.

Punch-up files are good in storing information that is time sensitive, such as bills, airline tickets, birthday cards, and mail that has invitations.

- Materials or files that you usually need or access should be placed in folders that are clearly labeled. If this works for you, you can categorize your files or bills based on the month you received them (12 folders for 12 months) or if you get larger files, you can divide the folders per week.

- If you are going on an air travel three months from now and have bought airline tickets early, place them in the folder of the appropriate month.

- At every month’s end, you have to remove everything out of the folder for next month. File all items in your appropriate folder.

- Check the punch-up file every morning. This can be positioned atop a drawer. But if you want to see the punch-up file in closer view so that you won’t forget it, put the punch-up file near your counter or desk.

Organize Your Paperwork the Easy Way

The best and most convenient way to start anew is to literally begin with a clean slate. Trash the junk. This means the usual cliché: out with the old and in with the new. The most efficient way for anyone to do this is to start getting rid of your clutter.
Reorganize your stuff. Be aware of things, objects, possessions and paper that have special meaning to you and try as much as possible to let go of the things that hold no relevant contribution to your lifestyle. In doing so, you will get to find out that you will be suffused with a lot more liveliness not to mention significant space for the objects that hold more meaning for you.

Having difficulty as to where is the best place to start, what and how? Relax. All you have to do is to make a list of the things you want to get rid of. Make time every day to look at this list and check one or two of the activities you were able to accomplish for that particular day. Have you noticed when was the last time you used that document for such and such research? Or that wok Aunt Jemima gave you last Christmas? If the answer is never, clear out anything that you were not able to use for the last year or so.
Do not forget to check the obvious places: inside the closet, under your bed, the kitchen drawer.

Unworn clothes pile up easily. Gather all of them. Include any housewares that you are no longer using but are in good condition yet are piling up. Donate them to charity.

Believe it or not, paper is one of the things that people are most attached to, even if the obvious fact is: paper is replaceable as well as expendable. More than half of papers filed are never looked at again. If you have utility bills that are years old, credit card statements, cancelled checks, documents for taxes that are three or more years old, shred them all. All you need to have are documents for deductions on your taxes. Even documents you have on your computer that are just occupying unnecessary space on your hard drive need to be purged too. Delete old e-mails, irrelevant documents and make a backup copy of pertinent files.

If you put your mind to it, it is easy to clean up clutter as well as any loose ends you may have. All it takes is patience, a little bit of your time and efficient organization.

How to Organize Your Kitchen

You may think that it is an easy task to organize a kitchen. You may realize that it can also be difficult to do tasks in the kitchen if it is not organized. You must set steps and routines for you to follow and have an easy time working in your kitchen.

Here are some pointers that you may use in organizing your kitchen:

1. You must keep your kitchen clean for you to work conveniently and free from any time consuming activities before you cook. Discard any items that you will not use and place them in a place where you can locate them easier when the time comes that you will need their use.

2. If there are medicines, spices, or food that have already met their expiration, you can put them in the trash or discard those things immediately.

3. Store cooking utensils, pots, and pans in an area near to where the stove is placed. You can congest the cooking materials for you to have more space in cooking.

4. If there are large materials and cooking utensils that are seldom used in the kitchen, you may want to remove them and place them in a cupboard. There are even appliances that are not used in your everyday cooking. You may consider adding to your kitchen an appliance barn. This can store your juicers, toasters, blenders, and other appliances on the countertop with order and arrangement.

5. Place the silverwares and dishes close to your dining area. It can be accessible for you to get these items when you are about to eat. You may need silverware holders and racks to have more space.

6. You have to be aware of the materials or tools that are reachable by your children such as knives, cleaning chemicals, and alcohol. Keep them in high places where they cannot be reached.

7. You may use a bulletin board or the refrigerator to stick or hang reminders and schedules. These can help you to have an enjoyable and organized time in the kitchen. Designate spots for your mail and bills and check them out everyday.

8. Always keep you refrigerator clean and neat both inside and outside. If you see mystery foods, discard them at once. Sometimes there are unknown items that are placed in the refrigerator.

9. If you are through with the kitchen, you must check everything before you leave the kitchen. Do not forget to turn off the lights and the ceiling fan and everything that you used with electricity. The key to an organized kitchen is maintenance.

How to Organize Your Home Office

Some companies encourage people to work from the house which works very well for mothers who don’t have anyone to take care of the kids. This can only work if the work done can be as equally productive or even better than doing it in the office. By making some changes in how the place looks, one will be able to create the right working environment.

A person should reorganize the surroundings if one feels that the person is distracted from what is happening around them and believes this will help in making the person finish everything more productively and efficiently. Here are some tips one do to make the right working environment at home.

1. Most people have a personal computer at home. By positioning it in the front of the person, the children in the house will know that the parents are busy and will only approach when the job is finished.

2. If one’s office is in the study which is a closed space, one can put the table in front of the door so one will easily see if someone is coming. This can’t work if the person is working in an open area like the kitchen or the dining room.

3. The work area is just for that individual. If there are other things in the area that could disrupt ones work, it is best to remove it.

4. All the papers and other essential things that a person needs must be within reach. One can get a corkboard to pin important dates on to remember, a small drawer to hold the stapler, pens and other documents. If the person needs to make or receive calls, the phone should also be placed nearby or beside the computer so if it rings, the individual can easily answer it. Other people prefer a whiteboard rather than a corkboard to jot down notes or reminders. That choice depends on the person.

5. Some papers or files are used more often than others. A person can buy some boxes to store these documents in and make a system either alphabetically or by colors which will help the person easily find them when these are needed.

6. If the person receives documents via fax or email, one should mark all the important details whenever it is received. This is part of making the working area systematic and enable the person to keep on track all the assignments that have not yet been completed.

How to Hire a Personal Organizer

Some people who are too busy with work may sometimes be absent minded about certain things and tend to forget doing some of their important chores. If this happens more frequently, it is best to get a handyman of some sort to help out rather than making one’s performance suffer. A personal organizer can be hired to do just about anything, whether it is something that has to do with work in the office or activities that need to be done at home with the family.

Hiring a personal organizer is like hiring an applicant for any other job. One should prepare a list of questions that the person must be able to answer and if the individual answers well, then the job can be offered. Here are some questions that one can ask a potential personal organizer:

1. How long has the person been doing this line of work?

2. What kind of work does the individual specialize in?

3. There are many other jobs that one can do. Before the person did this, what are the previous jobs, if any, that the individual did before?

4. What is the educational background of the person?

5. If the person has done this before, who are the previous clients that worked with the individual before that can be contacted as references.

6. How much will the person expect if accepted for the job? Will it be by hour or per day?

7. Will the person charge if there will be a trial working session set up to see if there will be any problems working with that individual?

8. What are the suggestions that the person can give regarding the first impression that the individual sees as wrong or unfit in the present working environment?

9. What assurance is there that the advice given will work for the one who hired the personal organizer? Will there be a follow-up session to assess the progress if it works or not? Will there be semi-annual or quarterly check-ups offered to monitor ones progress?

10. Does the personal organizer know anyone that can be contacted if there is a need to establish organizational systems?

Once the person is able to find the right personal organizer to be around with, the individual will not have to worry about things that were overlooked since there is someone nearby making sure that everything will be alright.

The Art of Leadership

According to the Internet know-it-all, Wikipedia, leadership is defined as “the ability of an individual to influence, motivate and enable others to contribute toward the effectiveness and success of the organizations of which they are members”. In other words, a leader is an influential kind of guy who can guide you and/or command you and/or motivate you.

Many people may desire to be leaders because that will make other people follow them or for whatever other reasons like that will boost the leader’s pride, spirit and ego.

What about you? You might like to be known as a leader while at work, at home and at play unless you have George Bush as your boss, Britney Spears as your wife and a Doberman-Pit Bull cross breed as your playing companion.

Well, here are some leadership basics you must get a handle on:

1. Develop a vision and formulate a strategy around it.

2. Communicate your vision and strategy clearly: For example, “Guys, we’re going out for beer tomorrow night, so no one eat or drink anything till then because tomorrow night, we’re gonna have a food and drink fest!” may be an effective way of communicating your vision and strategy to certain interest groups. Remember, good, unambiguous and clear communication is one of the key psychological assets of a leader.

3. Create a coalition of people who agree with your thoughts. Words such as “Guys, we’re going to have a beer and food party right now and I’m going to pick up the tab for everyone, so follow me all ye who want to!” may get you a great coalition of followers but something tells us they’re going to stick with you till you stop picking up those tabs. A good leader always creates a coalition of people by the way he talks and influences, by the thought process behind his ideas and by the way he lays out his plans. Remember - never bribe anyone because you want him or her to join your coalition!

4. Now that you have a group rooting for you, establish a sense of urgency. Powerful dialogues such as: “Guys, as your well-architected, interactively-positive exclusive leader, I have to inform you that if we don’t get out of this beer bar RIGHT now, the coppers will arrest us!” can always establish a sense of urgency. Survey the surroundings for competitive realities and potential crises before you go verbose.

5. Now, having identified the problems and obstacles that stand in the way of your goals, start removing them: “Guys, a swift karate chop on the coppers’ Adam’s apples will disable them from following us!” would be a great line to say to your coalition in the aforesaid scenario. This would remove all obstacles in your immediate goal of escaping from the beer bar too.

6. Having removed the obstacles, you are now ready to consolidate and promote/improve people from your coalition and delegate authority. “Klutz Kramer will now always compulsorily carry a knuckleduster each time we go to a beer bar because his karate chops are no good! Slimy Krontz is hereby promoted – he need not carry his Aussie Beer Can Mortar machine to any beer bar in the future!” Delegation of authority can create a feeling of pride and importance among the good performers in your coalition.

7. Reward people. A job well done deserves something more than mere applause.

8. Now introduce new themes or identify new problems and follow the same leadership strategies outline in 1–6 above and you will taste success as a leader!

Remember, in the end a leader is different from an authoritative figure such as a manager. A manager or any authoritative figure can do things right, while a leader always does the right things. So, go ahead, become a leader – just don’t let it go to your head.

Don’t Settle for Mediocrity

True success in life can only come by not settling for mediocrity, we should always strive to achieve and get the most out of life that we possibly can, it is only when we push ourselves and give it all we’ve got can we then give ourselves a pat on the back for a job well done. Success in life depends on self-discipline and not giving in at the first hurdle you come across or going into a project only half heartedly, by pushing yourself that little bit further you will be surprised at what you are capable of achieving, this is what separates the winners from the losers or the successful from the unsuccessful.

All people say that they want to succeed in life at whatever they do but very few are willing to actually push themselves them little bit further in order to achieve their goals, and this is why some of us succeed in life and others fail. How well you succeed is all about how bad you want the success, what it means to you, are you willing to succeed a little or are you willing to go the whole way and beyond to achieve a higher status and be outstanding?

We all start out with the best of intentions when racing towards the goals we have set, we shoot out of the starting gate and run down the straight but many of us fall back at the first hurdle, we don’t push, we run out of steam when the going gets tough and don’t pause to catch our second wind but come to a halt and give up, or stumble on half heartedly and cross the line in second or third place at best.

Those who do have the winning streak in them, who know that with a little extra push and a pause to catch their breath and then a final sprint down the home straight and past the winning post a head in front of their competitors are the ones that end up with the glory and true success in life.

Of course all those who are successful don’t just rely on pushing themselves, all winners have a strategy and are willing to be flexible on their way to success because life has a way of throwing many different spanners into the works along the way. We have to be able to adapt to these unexpected happenings when they occur and not get bogged down, we have to take them in our stride, skip around them and continue in the race.

Never settle for anything less than giving it you’re all

Here are some tips to help you remember never to settle for anything but your best no matter what the project is

  • It doesn’t matter how big or small the project put your all into getting it completed
  • If you think you have given it your best shot, pause and ask yourself “could I improve”
  • Plan our your project but always be willing to make changes and work your way around the unexpected
  • t’s ok to pause but get back into the race and carry on until you pass the winning post.
